WGGO aims to educate New York City public high school members about food waste and composting, by providing information about waste management systems, waste to energy programs, and developing sustainable urban environments.

New York City has between 30-32 public school districts and each district has between 30 to 60 schools. We are targeting attendees of a sample population of NYC public high schools between the ages of 14-19 throughout all five boroughs (Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island).

Our main goal is to create awareness, educate, and promote sustainable development.  An alternative objective is to use the compost generated by participants to help restore the ecosystems in NYC’s green spaces, especially in disadvantaged and marginalized communities.  We will also explore the viability of local waste to energy projects.
